The Bentota Lagoon’s protected, flat water creates ideal conditions for jet skiing and wakeboarding – activities that require calm, predictable surface conditions to be both safe and enjoyable. Our operator partners are certified, safety-conscious, and provide equipment and briefing that meets international standards. The banana boat – a perennial favourite for groups – covers the lagoon at speed with the kind of undignified, entirely enjoyable chaos that no one is too sophisticated to enjoy.
From the Bentota base, a traditional flat-bottomed boat takes guests up the Bentota River and into the Madu Ganga wetland system – 64 islands of mangrove, cinnamon plantation, and community life connected by channels navigable only at this scale of vessel. The cinnamon island demonstration, the bird-rich mangrove margins, and the quiet of the inner waterway provide a complete tonal contrast to the water sports that precede it.
Bentota beach itself is one of the south-west coast’s finest – a wide, relatively uncrowded stretch of sand with calm water safe for swimming throughout the dry season. The afternoon transition from activity to beach relaxation is built into the day’s structure, allowing guests to decompress after the water sports before the return journey.
